Lithium Battery - ภัยใกล้ตัว

Lithium battery is convenient and is in use constantly in everyday life. However, it posses a serious risk if handled improperly.  Internal damaged battery is often in times not visible and could potentially cause catastrophic fire during charging or use.

Thermal runaway in a battery is a chain reaction of exothermic chemical reactions causing a rapid and uncontrolled rise in temperature, potentially leading to a fire or explosion. It's a serious safety concern, especially with lithium-ion batteries, and can be triggered by various factors like overcharging, short circuits, or mechanical damage.

Usually, there will be smoke or fumes coming out of the battery casing before the fire and/or explosion of the life-threatening chemicals, e.g. HF, H3PO4, methane, ethane and propane, etc. The only way to put out the fire is to dump the battery in a bucket of water ... and a lot of water! Therefore, it is better to call an authority for help to control the fire.

It is advisable NOT to charge the battery unattended. However, that is not always possible. Alternatively, you can charge your lithium batteries in a safety cabinet. In event of fire, the cabinet gives an alarm and offers 90-min fire protection (the fire is contained inside the cabinet), an enough time to remove the cabinet to a safe area and call the authority to take care of the matter. Moreover, the cabinet can also be equipped with an internal fire extinguisher.
